Tournament Rules
- Matches will be played under normal RFU 7 aside rules , with squads of up to 12 people. Only 10 players may be used in a match with rolling substitutes
- All pool games will be 7 minutes each way with 1 minute for the teams to change ends at half time.
- Teams are asked to be at their designated pitch 5 minutes before kick off time so that the match schedule can run to time. Any team arriving late may be asked to forfeit the game
- The women’s competition consists off 4 pools of 4 teams. Each team will play 3 matches on the Saturday
- The men’s competition consists of 8 pools of 4 teams. Each team will play 3 matches on the Saturday
- 2 points will be awarded for a win and 1 point for a draw with league points deciding the positions
- At the end of the pool stages, in the event of sides being level on points, the team with the best points difference will finish higher. If the points difference is level then it will be decided on the number of tries scored followed by number of conversions. If it is still level then it will be decided on the toss of a coin between the two captains
- For the men’s competition the Cup, Shield, Plate and Vase will be decided as follows: Cup: Pool winners (8 teams) Shield: Teams placed 2nd in each pool (8 teams) Plate: Teams placed 3rd in each pool (8 teams) Vase: Teams placed 4th in each pool (8 teams)
- For the women’s competition the Cup and Plate will be decided as follow: Cup: 1st and 2nd placed teams in each pool (8 total) Plate: 3rd and 4th placed teams in each pool (8 total)
- Please note that the above pool numbers and format may change depending on number of entries.
- Entry into the knock-out competition will be seeded using the same rules as the league positions.
- Sunday’s matches will commence at 10am. These matches are the knock-out competitions. All matches will be 7 minutes each way with finals played for 10 minutes each way
- Drawn games in the quarter finals, semi finals and final will be decided by sudden death (that is the team to score the next try will be deemed the winners) lasting a maximum of 5 minutes each way. If no try is scored then the result will be decided by a sudden death drop goal competition
- Any disputes will be adjudicated by the Tournament Referee whose decision is final
- Any player sent from the field of play will take no further part in the tournament and the referees decision is final. No appeals will be considered under any circumstances
- Remember 7’s is a game to be played for fun, to make friends, it is not so much the winning but the participating. Players and supporters are expected to show good sportsmanship at all times
